Here are a few tips on what to do and more importantly not do with regards to creating your Curriculum Vitae.
A CV is a vital tool for getting you noticed in the job market – it represents you and it is therefore worth spending a significantly amount of time and effort to get it right.
Here's how:
- Be clear about what you are looking for and ensure that your CV supports your vision and experience
- Summarise your skills and areas of expertise
- Ensure that your name is on every page
- Include achievements rather than just listing responsibilities
- Be concise, your CV should ideally be no more than 3 pages no one wants to read a 20 page CV!
- Ensure that the way that your CV is presented is visually appealing. Use plenty of white space, use appropriate headings and short paragraphs so that it is easy to read.
- Ensure you have the appropriate keywords contained within your CV for your industry/profession. Employers and Recruiters use keyword searches to access candidate databases and shortlist them.
